There's A Mystery Looming Around Tomorrow's UFC Card And Mark Zuckerberg May Have Something To Do With It
This weekend's UFC card (headlined by Mackenzie Dern vs Yan Xiaonan) is a bit of an under-the-radar one on the surface, but there's a looming mystery around the event thanks to the UFC announcing earlier this week that no fans or media will be allowed at the Apex for the fights on Saturday….
Like everyone else, I was fascinated by this decision immediately, and Dana only added fuel to the fire with this tongue-in-cheek answer as to why this Fight Night will be a closed doors event….
Honestly though, the first thing that came to mind for me when I heard this news was that the event would be filmed for some kinda Metaverse experience or whatever they call it now.
We know the UFC has been trying to put that together for months, and I was trying to connect the dots between Dana White just having that meeting with Mark Zuckerberg and afterwards, Dana telling me that Zuckerberg's wife's favorite fighter is Mackenzie Dern.
Mackenzie Dern, the headliner of this card, then went and told the media that Zuckerberg has, in fact, "rented out the whole event" and I felt so proud of myself for nailing that one….
….for about four hours, until Dana White denied that claim and called it "total bullshit" on Twitter that night.
My thing is, I think Zuckerberg has SOMETHING to do with this….I just don't know what. Maybe it's "total bullshit" on a technicality? Like Mark Zuckerberg didn't rent out the UFC Apex, but they ARE doing a UFC Metaverse/event/partnership?
I don't wanna doubt my guy Dana, but it just makes too much sense to me that Dana White meets with Mark Zuckerberg, tells me that Zuckerberg loves MMA and that Zuckerberg's wife LOVES Mackenzie Dern, and then nobody's allowed at the next Mackenzie Dern fight merely weeks later and Mackenzie herself says it's because of Zuckerberg.
You can watch that interview where we talk about the Dana/Zuckerberg meeting here….
(Zuckerberg part starts at 3:18)
We speculated on this news and discussed a whole lot more about the world of mixed martial arts this week on this week's episode of the Spinnin Backfist MMA Show, which we are still doing weekly (usually twice a week) in the office. Give it a listen if you're interested!
P.S. I can't not include the Zuck training footage in this blog. He doesn't look half bad!
I'd still wipe the floor with his robot lookin head ass in RNR tho. That's the only guy I'd fight right there: Mark Zuckerberg. For the rights to Paddy The Baddy's social media accounts to get unbanned permanently. Yeh lizard.
